Memorial Day 2027 is Monday, May 31. The City of Tallahassee, Leon County government and Leon County Schools all close for it. In 2026 the city moved all garbage and recycling pickup one day later for the whole week, and StarMetro ran a Sunday schedule. The area’s national veterans cemetery is Tallahassee National Cemetery, 5015 Apalachee Parkway.

Tallahassee National Cemetery

The national cemetery sits on U.S. 27 (Apalachee Parkway) near March Road, east of the city, on 250 acres the VA bought in 2012, according to the cemetery’s page. Call the office at 850-402-8941 for the 2027 Memorial Day ceremony time.

Flowers and decorations. The VA allows artificial floral arrangements on graves during the five-day period before and after Memorial Day, and from Dec. 15 to Feb. 15. Artificial flowers placed outside those windows are removed.

Unincorporated Leon County: in past years the county’s Solid Waste and Rural Waste Service Centers and the Household Hazardous Waste Center closed on Memorial Day and reopened Tuesday, according to the county’s Memorial Day notice.

City of Tallahassee (2026 notice):

  • Offices: closed Memorial Day.
  • StarMetro: Sunday schedule with no night service; Dial-A-Ride 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; call center 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Animal Service Center and community centers: closed Memorial Day, open again Tuesday.

Leon County (from its earlier Memorial Day notice):

  • Offices, libraries, community centers and Animal Control: closed Memorial Day.
  • Libraries: branches closed early on the Saturday before and the Main Library at 6 p.m. Sunday, reopening Tuesday.
  • Parks and boat landings: open.

Leon County Schools: May 31, 2027, is a districtwide holiday on the 2026-27 calendar, after the last day of school on May 27.

Pools for the long weekend
