New places to eat in Tallahassee, July to October 2026, from state licensing inspections: Metro Deli Southwood, Curry Bowl, Bahn Thai and more.
Last checked Oct. 10, 2026. Openings come from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation’s District 6 food service inspection file, downloaded Oct. 10, 2026; business rules from the City of Tallahassee’s Starting a Business page. Rebuilt each month.
Before a restaurant, cafe or food business in Florida can open, or reopen under a new owner, it needs a state food service license, and that starts with a licensing inspection by the Division of Hotels and Restaurants. Those inspections are the earliest public record of a new place. These are the businesses inside Tallahassee city limits that passed one between July 7 and Oct. 8, 2026.

How we built this list
We took every licensing inspection in the state’s District 6 file from July 7 to Oct. 8, 2026, with a Leon County address, then checked each address against the Census Bureau’s geocoder and kept only those inside the city limits. Three places with a Tallahassee mailing address were outside the city, and four addresses (two at Railroad Square, one on Killearn Club Way and one on Miccosukee Road) could not be matched, so they are left out. A licensing inspection can mean a brand-new business or a change of owner; the state file does not say which. Names are spelled as the business registered them with the state.
Food inspections are only one record. Shops, offices and service businesses do not get a state food inspection, so they will not appear here; we add them when the business or the city announces an opening.
Opening a business in Tallahassee
The city’s Starting a Business page says the City of Tallahassee does not require or issue business or occupational licenses. It was the first city in Florida to drop a small business license mandate, in 2016. County, state or federal agencies may still require one. The city’s checklist:
- Register the business with the Florida Department of State.
- Register with the Florida Department of Revenue to collect sales tax.
- Get a federal tax ID number from the IRS.
- Check whether your trade needs a state professional license from DBPR, the Department of Health or the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
- Confirm the location’s zoning allows your use, with the city’s zoning uses lookup. Changing a building’s use needs a commercial plans examiner, 850-891-7001, option 2.
What this means for you
- New place to try: start with the September list.
- Opening a business: no city license, but check zoning before you sign a lease.
